Annapurna Base Camp Trek Via Poon Hill is one of the most popular treks in Nepal that offers a trekking experience to the heart of gorgeous Annapurna Himalayas. Treading through the Annapurna Conservation Area, the trek explores the lower skirts of the Annapurna Conservation Area and even leads to the grand viewpoint at Ghorepani Poon hill. This 15-day Poonhill with Abc trek begins with your arrival in Kathmandu. In a bustling city, nothing is better than a sightseeing tour which will be on your itinerary for the next day. A guided tour of this city will reveal its history as you visit the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Basantapur Durbar Square and Swayambhunath Stupa. Then, you head west the following day to Pokhara city and onto Nayapul where you will begin the trek of Annapurna region.

Challenging Ulleri steps and beautiful Ghorepani village will offer you a glimpse of beautiful wilderness. The hike to the Poonhill vantage point offers a mesmerizing experience of the sunrise above the Himalayas and grand views of Annapurna (8091m) including Machhapuchhre (Fishtail 6997m) and Dhaulagiri (8167m).

The trail then brings you closer to these mountains, some of the tallest in the world, as you take on a rugged terrain past the villages of Chhomrong, Dovan, and Deurali. Entering Annapurna Sanctuary, Machhapuchhre (3700m) will be your first stop with a snowy experience at the foot of this sacred mountain and further up the famous Annapurna Base Camp (ABC 4130m). Spending a night amidst towering Himalayas at ABC, you will then retreat to the hot springs at Jhinu Danda and hike back to Nayapul as the trek comes to an end.

The best season to take on this trek is from March to May which is Spring season in Nepal. Alternatively, a trek during autumn i.e. September to November can be undertaken.

Detailed Itinerary

Day01: Arrive in Kathmandu (1300m.)

Welcome to the Land of Himalayas. Arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport, a company representative will receive you and transfer you to a pre-booked trip hotel. Depending on your time of arrival, a trip briefing shall be provided either on your way to the hotel. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.

Day02: Full day cultural tours of Kathmandu valley.

An eventful day in your itinerary, this is a cultural tour day. A guided tour of four important landmarks in Kathmandu valley will keep you entertained throughout the day as you visit Swayambhunath Stupa, Basantapur Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, and Boudhanath. First is a Newari Buddhist shrine located atop a hill. Then, tour around the Basantapur Durbar Square and numerous shrines located within the palace courtyard. Following with a drive to Pashupatinath- the Hindu temple and end the day at the Boudhanath Stupa. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.

Day03: Drive to Pokhara, Lake City. (820m.) 6-7hrs.

Early in the morning, you catch a vehicle to Pokhara. Enjoy a 7-hour bus ride on the Prithvi Highway as the roads swerve around beautiful landscape along the Trishuli and Marsayangdi River. You’ll cross Malekhu, Mugling, and Damauli along with other small towns before arriving in the bustling city of lakes, Pokhara. Enjoy the evening by the Phewa Lakeside. Overnight stay at Pokhara.

Day04: Drive to Nayapul (1070m.) - 1 hr. drive. Trek to Tikhedhunga. (1540M.) 3 hrs.

Post breakfast, start the day with a short road trip to Nayapul. A private vehicle will transport you from the hotel to Nayapul which is the start point of the trek. The trek starts with your crossing over Modi Khola Bridge. You then arrive at Birethanti, a splendid riverside village inhabited by Gurung and Magar natives. The trail climbs gradually to Hille and further up to Tikhedhunga. Overnight stay at Tikhedhunga.

Day05: Trek from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2,860m.)7 hrs.

Take the suspension bridge at Tikhedhunga and cross over to start on Ulleri steps. A fabulous backdrop of the Himalayas makes a gorgeous walk and past oak and rhododendron forest arrive at Banthanti onto to Nangethanti. An hour’s walk from here leads to Ghorepani. This Gurung village will welcome you with gorgeous views of the Annapurna massif in addition to its own architecture. Overnight stay at Ghorepani.

Day06: Hike up to Poon Hill (3210m.) and trek to Tadapani (2610m.)5 hrs.

An early morning wakeup call is a great way to start this beautiful day with a 1-hour hike to Poon Hill. Up top, great first-hand views of Annapurna (8091m), Dhaulagiri (8167m), Machhapuchhre (Fishtail 6997m), and many more form an immaculate wall up north. Sunrise view adds to this spectacular excursion as you head down shortly for breakfast in Ghorepani before heading out to Tadapani. The trail takes you past beautiful streams and climbs up to Tadapani. Overnight stay at Tadapani.

Day07: Trek from Tadapani to Chhomrong (2170m.)5 hrs.

An exciting day of hiking, it starts with a trail north of Tadapani. Gradually, the trail descends by the bank of Kimrung Khola and crossing over this river over a suspension bridge, climb up a valley of lush green forest. Arriving at Talung, a beautiful Gurung village atop the Modi Khola valley, head on further along a trail climbing up and descending along the stone paved steps to Chhomrong. Overnight stay at Chhomrong.

Day08: Trek from Chhomrong to Dovan (2600m.)6 hrs.

Another beautiful day on the trails, this day starts with a descent to Chhomrong Khola. Crossing over hit the trail that climbs to the village of Sinuwa. The trail undulates and descends to Bamboo village by the banks of a river. Then heading on along the trail, with beautiful views of the vast valley and occasional glimpse of snow-capped peaks, continue the ascent to Dovan. Overnight stay at Dovan.

Day09: Trek from Dovan to Deurali (3200m.)4 hrs.

First up is a trail along with a series of moraines past avalanche stricken landscape to the village of Himalaya Hotel. The sub-tropical vegetation disappears with scrub juniper and sparse vegetation taking over. Onto plummeting ravines with the river flowing down below, the trail leads to Hinku cave. Explore the cave before crossing over the ravine onto a landslide area. The trail eventually leads to Deurali. Overnight stay at Deurali.

Day10: Trek from Deurali to Annapurna base camp (4130m.)4 hrs.

The day starts with a trail heading up from Deurali past shepherd huts onto the Annapurna Sanctuary. This part of the trail involves hiking along glacial moraines and past a rugged terrain. Expect to encounter snow along the track as you head for Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m). Heading further along the trail, a couple of hours’ hike leads to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m). Bask in the beautiful panorama of surrounding snow-capped peaks including Annapurna South (8091m) and Nilgiri Himal (7061m) among others. Overnight stay at ABC.

Day11: Trek back from Annapurna base camp to Bamboo (2310m.)5-6 hrs.

Concluding our trek and achieving the mission of ABC, we retrace our trail back to Bamboo. A pleasant descent past Machhapuchhre Base camp and the Hinku caves past Deurali, we arrive at Dovan. A parting glimpse of the Annapurna Sanctuary is a great summation to the trip as we further descend to Dovan before arriving in Bamboo. Overnight stay at Bamboo.

Day12: Trek from Bamboo to Jhinu Danda. Natural hot spring. (1780m.)5 hrs.

On this day, we further retreat along the track to Chhomrong. The trail then ascends along another stretch of steep stairs. You’ll cross Kuldighar and Chhomrong before diverting onto a track to Jhinu Danda. Once there, check in to the lodge and head out to the hot springs which are around 30mins from the lodge. Soak the warmth of hot waters and relax. Overnight stay at Jhinu Danda.

Day13: Trek from Jhinu Danda to Nayapul 6hrs. And drive to Pokhara. 1hrs.

Wake up early in the morning to head out on a long day of the hike. The trail runs along gorgeous Modi Khola Valley past lush fields and forests. Cross over the river and head further downhill onto the banks of Modi Khola River. Finally, crossing over the bridge arrive at Nayapul. Catch a private vehicle back to Pokhara where you’ll check back into the hotel. Spend the evening strolling around the bustling lakeside market for souvenirs. Overnight stay at Pokhara.

Day14: Drive back to Kathmandu. Farewell dinner.

Wrapping up the trip of Annapurna region, an early morning drop off at the tourist bus terminal in Pokhara will mark the start of a 7-hour road trip back to Kathmandu. The Prithvi Highway will take you past the towns of Damauli, Dumre, Mugling, Malekhu, and Gajuri as you ride along the banks of Marsayangdi and Trishuli River. In Kathmandu, transfer from the bus terminal to your hotel, check back in and relax. Exchange contacts and mementos at the ceremony. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.

Day15: Departure to international airport for your final flight.

Last day of the trip, venture out for souvenir shopping or just to gather parting views of this bustling city. This, of course, depending on your scheduled flight. A travel rep. will arrive at the hotel to transfer you to the airport exactly 3 hours prior to the scheduled departure. Bidding farewell, catch onwards flight to your destination.
