Langtang Circuit with Ganja La Pass Trek Brief Insight

Situated in the beautiful Langtang region, Langtang Circuit with Ganja La Pass Trek is an adventurous and popular trekking destinations. The trek entails enchanting views of Mt. Langtang Lirung (7227m), Ganesh Himal (7422m), Yala Peak (5500m); and Dorje Lakpa (6966m) on different occasions on the journey.

Crossing one of the highest passes in the Himalayas, Ganja La Pass (5130m) along the pristine environs in Langtang National Park is a thrilling experience in itself. The trail also gives the pleasure of experiencing the unique tradition and culture of Tibetan and Tamang communities.

Getting There

After landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, you’ll be transferred to your respective hotel. The second day is scheduled for sightseeing around the UNESCO world heritage sites in the Kathmandu Valley. On the third day, you’ll start your journey with a scenic drive to Sybrubensi. From here, the trail passes through Lama Hotel and proceeds towards Langtang Village.  The trek along with these villages also offers insight into the culture and lifestyle of the Tamang communities.

Along the way, you’ll cross a suspension bridge over Langtang River and continue your walk through the forested trails and pasturelands. The trail to Kyanjin Gompa offers glorious views of Langtang ranges including Langtang Lirung (7227m) and Dorje Lakpa (6966m). In Kyanjin Gompa, you can hike to the top of Kyanjin Ri (4773m) or Tserko Ri (4984m) to relish the panorama of Langtang Himalayas or explore the local monastery, Kyanjin Gompa.

Leaving Kyanjin, you’ll make a gradual ascent towards the settlement of Ngegang crossing Langtang Khola. Once at Ngegang, you’ll take a steep climb to the top of the ridge which takes you to Ganja La Pass (5130m). The pass is famous for offering a parade of Himalayas in Langtang, Gaurishankar, and Everest ranges. Passing through the small villages of Dhukpa, Tarkeghyang, and Sermathang, you’ll finally drive back to Kathmandu via Melamchi Pul Bazaar. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for this trek.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu |1300m

Soon after landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed by one of our staff members and transferred to your respective hotel. After your arrival, if you have enough time, you can explore the city and prepare for the trek.

Day 02: Full day Kathmandu Sightseeing

Full day Kathmandu SightseeingToday is scheduled for sightseeing and trek preparation. A local guide will accompany you on the sightseeing tour around the valley. UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square are the major destinations for the day. All these sites are equally revered by both Hindus and Buddhists alike. In the evening, you will meet with our staff to discuss the trek.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Sybrubensi (1503m) |7 Hrs

After breakfast, you’ll start your drive towards Sybrubensi. It is a scenic drive along green hills, farmlands, and riverside roads. Passing Trishuli Bazaar, you’ll drive further to Dhunche. After crossing Dhunche, the views of Ganesh Himal (7422m) appears at the distance. Thereon, a short drive will take you to Sybrubensi. Here, you can make final preparations for the trek while exploring the local markets.

Day 04: Trek from Sybrubensi to Lama Hotel (2410m) |5-6 Hrs

Early in the morning, you’ll begin your trek towards Lama Hotel. Alongside the bank of Langtang Khola, you’ll ascend slowly towards the settlement of Rimche via Bamboo. Along the way, you’ll walk past the thick forest of rhododendron, juniper, and pine. You might encounter wildlife like musk deer, red panda, and Langur on the way. Finally, you’ll reach Lama Hotel from where you can observe the mountains in the Langtang range looming over the hills.

Day 05: Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3430m) |4-5 Hrs

From Lama Hotel, you’ll continue your walk towards Langtang Village. The trail initially is a gentle climb and gets steep all the way to the village. Along with glorious views of Mt. Langtang Lirung (7227m), you’ll trek through the forest of rhododendron trees before reaching Ghodatabela. Crossing a few Tamang villages, the trek takes you along pasturelands to arrive at Langtang Village.

Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3870m) |5-6 Hrs

From Langtang village, you’ll continue your walk to the village of Mundu crossing suspension bridges, beautiful waterfalls, and meadows. After a short stop at Mundu, you’ll walk past small hamlets which leads the way towards Kyanjin Gompa. Once at Kyanjin, you can visit the Kyanjin Gompa, which is a revered monastery in the region. After exploring the monastery and the village, you can call it a day and rest.

Day 07: Acclimatization/Rest day in Kyanjin

Today is an acclimatization day. After breakfast, you can ascend to Kyanjin Ri (4773m) enjoying panoramic views of Langtang Lirung (7227m), Langtang II (6596m), Tserko Ri (4984m), and many other mountains. Hiking to the top of Tserko Ri (4984m) is also another option to acclimatize. You can also visit the nearby cheese factory and Langshisha Kharka as well. Explore the village surroundings and observe the lifestyle of the Tibetan communities.

Day 08: Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Ngegang (4000m)| 5-6 Hrs

After breakfast, you’ll take a steep to ascend to the top of the ridge crossing Langtang Khola. As you continue your trek through the forest of juniper and pine, the settlements will start to get thinner. Walking past some twisted paths and terraced farmlands, you’ll finally reach Ngegang. Once at Ngegang, you’ll relish glorious views of the Himalayas and surrounding landscape.

Day 09: Trek from Ngegang to Ganja La Pass (5130m) to Keldang (4270m) |6-7 Hrs

Early in the morning, you’ll start your ascend towards Ganja La pass at 5130m. Following the steep trail, you’ll cross snow-covered terraces and large glaciers to reach the top of Ganja-La pass. Once at the top, you’ll get a breathtaking view of Langtang Lirung (7227m), Kinshung (6781m), and Dorje Lakpa (6966m) among the other Himalayas in the panorama. From here, the trail slowly descends towards the valley crossing small rivers, suspension bridges, and waterfalls to reach Keldang.

Day 10: Trek from Keldang to Dhukpa (4040m) |5-6 Hrs

Leaving Keldang behind, you’ll continue your trek towards Dhukpa. Alongside the Yangri river bank, you’ll first ascend and then descend through barren lands. The trail continues along the Dhukpa Danda to offer a slight increase in vegetation before arriving at Dhukpa. On the final stretch of the trek, you cross plain valleys and large meadows.

Day 11: Trek from Dhukpa to Tarkeghyang (2590m)| 5-6 Hrs

On the 11th day, you’ll be trekking towards the settlement of Tarkeghyang. In the early hours, you’ll climb to the top of the ridge from where you’ll get a panoramic view of Langtang and Dorje Lakpa ranges. Moving further, you’ll continue your walk through the forest of pine and rhododendron before reaching Gekye Gompa. Your arrival at the monastery also signals your entrance in Tarkeghyang.

Day 12: Trek from Tarkeghyang to Sermathang (2610m) |5-6 Hrs

Leaving Tarkeghyang, you trek along an easier trail that goes through forests of rhododendron. From Tarkeghyang, the trail first passes through the beautiful Sherpa village of Ghangyul and proceeds further towards the settlement of Kyayung. Along the way, you’ll walk past the forest of pine and juniper, river streams and large farmlands. Further ahead, you head to Chimighyang and trek to Sermathang.

Day 13: Drive back to Kathmandu |7 to 8 Hrs

From Sermathang, you’ll start driving towards the settlement of Nagidanda and then to Melamchi Pul Bazar via Kakani Bhanjyang. After a brief stop at Melamchi Bazaar, you’ll drive forward enjoying a sublime view of green hills and mountains. After a drive of four hours, you’ll reach Kathmandu. Here, you can rest and enjoy Newari cuisines to celebrate the success of the trek.

Day 14: Free day in Kathmandu

Today is a free day in Kathmandu. Kathmandu is a historical city which offers plenty of destinations to explore. You can visit the remaining UNESCO world heritage sites in the Valley or hike to the nearby hill stations. We also recommend you to shop for souvenirs and mementos of your trip.

Day 15: Farewell, Departure

Today is your last day in Nepal. We’ll drop you off two hours prior to your scheduled flight. We hope you will think of us for any other trips in Nepal in your near future. Thank you for traveling with you. We bid you farewell. Goodbye!
