Kailash Mansarovar Trek Via Kerung Brief Insight

The Kailash Mansarovar trek via Kerung takes you on a much-needed spiritual journey that encompasses the major cultural and touristic sites of both Nepal and Tibet. This 15-day trek commences from the quaint lands of Nepal which later takes you around the holy Lake Mansarovar where you’ll get to witness the allure of this magical land. From the majestic view of Mount Kailash to the hidden mysteries residing in the monasteries at Darchen and Zuthulphuk, this Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will solve all your mysteries and provide you a spiritual awakening.

Kailash Mansarovar Trek begins upon your arrival in Kathmandu. Indulge in a quick sightseeing tour that takes you to the major UNESCO World Heritage sites of Kathmandu and the next day you’ll embark on a scenic road journey northwest of Kathmandu to the Sybrubensi village. Although popular as the gateway to Langtang Region, you’ll take a detour from Sybrubensi and head towards the Tibetan Border of Kerung Town by going through Rasuwagadhi.

After fulfilling the legal formalities, we finally enter Kerung. Spend a night in Kerung and find yourself on the road to Saga which lies in the Shigatse prefecture. The drive takes about 6 hours and sees a sudden increase in elevation. Spend a day here to observe the Tsangpo River and you can even see slight glimpses of Kailash from here. The next day, you’ll drive to Lake Mansarovar which takes normally 5 hours. You’ll get to witness this beautiful lake that resides at the base of Mt. Kailash. You’ll complete the 110km circumambulation of the lake before heading to Darchen. Once at Darchen, you’ll indulge in Kora or circumambulation of Mt. Kailash. During the first phase, you’ll get to witness the Rakshas Taal as well.

The second day of Kora goes along the Droma La pass and it is often considered as the most difficult part of the trek. Admire the beautiful Kuber Kunda and the small monasteries along the road to arrive at Juthulpuk where this Kora will end. The next day, you will head back to Saga and if time permits, you’ll take a short dip in the Lake Mansarovar. The long road from Saga takes us to Kerung and after completing all the legal formalities, we renter Nepal. Head back to Kathmandu and then catch a flight which will lead you home.
