Jomsom Muktinath Trek is one of the most popular treks in the Mustang Region, which features a pilgrimage visit to the sacred Muktinath Temple whilst relishing the unique terrain of Mustang. The majestic and aesthetic mountains such as Nilgiri (7061m), Dhaulagiri (8167m), Annapurna I (8091m), Annapurna II (7937m), Annapurna III (7555m), Hiunchuli (6441m), Lamjung Himal (6586m), and others are visible from Mustang. Getting There

The first destination of the trek is Pokhara, to which you take a day-long drive from the capital city, Kathmandu. Pokhara valley is home to numerous lakes and exquisite views of mountains. From Pokhara, this trekking route takes you through beautiful villages in Nepal, including Ulleri, Ghorepani, Ghasa, Marpha, Jomsom, and Kagbeni.

The trail’s scenery ranges from beautiful rhododendron forests to rocky cliffs and deserts. Throughout the trek, you will also be able to enjoy spectacular vistas of old stone-carved houses along with a panoramic view of Annapurna Massif, Dhaulagiri Massif, Mount Hiunchuli (6441m), and Mount Machhapuchhre (6998m) among others.

Inside Muktinath temple is a golden statue of Lord Vishnu. This temple is surrounded by water from the Kali-Gandaki River flowing through the historical 108 stone water spouts behind the temple and two ponds in front of the temple.

Detailed Itinerary

Day01: Arrival in Kathmandu |1400m | Welcome Dinner

After arriving in Kathmandu, you will be received by our staff at the airport and checked in to a hotel. You can freshen up and go for a stroll around Thamel or just rest in your hotel room. At evening, you will be served a delicious welcome dinner. Overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day02: Trek Preparation and Kathmandu Sightseeing

Today you will leave for sightseeing in Kathmandu after breakfast. You will be visiting some of the UNESCO world heritage sites in the city, namely, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, and Pashupatinath. You will also enjoy a visit to Kathmandu Durbar Square, which is located at the heart of Kathmandu city and is surrounded by ancient Newari architectures, temples, and shrines. After sightseeing, you will make some last minute preparation for the trek. Overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day03: Fly to Pokhara (823m) and trek to Ulleri (2000m) 5 hours

After breakfast, you will catch a flight to Pokhara from Kathmandu. The trek starts from Nayapul which is a few hours’ drives away from Lakeside, Pokhara. The first trekking route will take you to Ulleri alongside Seti-Gandaki River. On the way, you will come across numerous steel bridges, beautiful farmlands, rice paddies, hills and many small villages like Mathathanti, Lamdali, Sudame, Hile, and Tikhedhunga. Overnight in Ulleri.

Day04: Trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani (2750m) 7 hours

The day’s adventure starts with a short climb after breakfast to reach Ghorepani. You will trek through thick green forests, enchanting waterfalls, and ethnic villages of Banthanti and Nangethanti with a panoramic view of snowcapped mountains like Annapurna (8091m), Machhapuchhre (6997m), and Dhaulagiri (8167m). You can also hike up to Poon Hill, which takes around 45 minutes to reach the top. The view of sunrise and sunset over the mountain ranges seen from Poon Hill is magnificent. Overnight in Ghorepani.

Day05: Trek from Ghorepani to Tatopani (1190m) 6 hours

Today’s trial ascends from Ghorepani to Tatopani where you will enjoy a refreshing bath at the natural hot water spring in Tatopani. This water is said to have medicinal and healing powers. Along the way, you will pass through charming Gurung villages and dense rhododendron forests. Overnight in Tatopani.

Day06: Trek from Tatopani to Ghasa (2110m) 6 hours

The day’s trek is to a lovely village Ghasa, situated along the bank of Kali-Gandaki River. The trail requires you to pass through one of the most dangerous bridges in the world, the hanging bridge of Ghasa. En route, you will pass through numerous waterfalls as you trek through the hills with a magnificent view of Mount Nilgiri (7061m). Overnight in Ghasa.

Day07: Trek from Ghasa to Marpha (2680m) 5 hours

From Ghasa you will hike up to Marpha, a small Thakali village in Mustang housing rusty houses carved with stones. Marpha is mainly known for its apple and byproducts production, including Marpha brandy. You will feel the intense wind blowing down the mountaintops as you reach Marpha village. Overnight in Marpha.

Day8: Trek from Marpha to Kagbeni (2810m) 5 hours

From Marpha, you will head to a small village in Mustang known as Kagbeni. It is one of the most beautiful villages in Nepal with its old stone houses adorned with prayer flags. On the way, you will pass through rocky cliffs and barren mountainous deserts with magnificent views of Mount Nilgiri (7061m) and other mountain ranges. One of Kagbeni’s most recognizable landmarks is its red monastery built at the confluence of two rivers. Overnight in Kagbeni.

Day09: Trek from Kagbeni to Muktinath (3710m) 6 hours

After 6 hours walk from Kagbeni in high altitude desert, you will reach your final destination, Muktinath, a sacred place for Buddhists and Hindus that lies in the foothills of Nilgiri Himalayan Range. Inside Muktinath temple is a golden statue of Vishnu, the protector of all humankind. Muktinath offers a stunning view of mountains like Mount Nilgiri (7061m), Mount Dhaulagiri (8167m), Lamjung Himal (6586m), and so on. Overnight in Muktinath.

Day10: Trek from Muktinath to Jomsom (2710m) 6 hours

Today you will descend back to Jomsom via Kagbeni, marking the end of the trek. Along the way, you will pass through rocky cliffs and mountainous deserts with the panoramic view of Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri range, and many other snow-clad mountains. In Jomsom, you will enjoy delicious Thakali dinner and explore the culture and lifestyle of Thakali people. Overnight in Jomsom.

Day11: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara

After an early morning breakfast in Jomsom, you will fly back to Pokhara whilst enjoying the beautiful landscapes seen from the plane. In Pokhara, you can indulge in other recreational activities like cycling, boating, paragliding, bungee jumping, hang gliding, and so forth. Overnight at the hotel in Pokhara.

Day12: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

Today you will drive back to Kathmandu from Pokhara enjoying the scenic view alongside Marsayangdi and Trishuli Rivers. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. You can spend the evening as you please. Overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day13: Final Departure

After breakfast at the hotel, one of our staffs will drive you to the international airport to connect you with your flight back home.
