Manaslu Base Camp Trek Brief Insight

Manaslu Base Camp Trek is an ideal trekking package for trekkers who want an isolated and unspoiled trekking adventure. This trek offers an opportunity to explore the natural beauty and cultural heritage of a lesser-known region. Trekking through the Manaslu Conservation Area, the trip leads to the base camp of the Mt. Manaslu (8163m), the eighth highest mountain in the world. Moreover, the cultural introduction of the Tibetan communities along the way grants a unique experience.

Getting There

The 16-day Manaslu Base Camp trip starts with your arrival in Kathmandu, where you will explore the glorious UNESCO world heritage sites. From Kathmandu, you take a scenic countryside drive to Soti Khola and then start trekking. Beginning the enchanting affair, you trek along the Budhi Gandaki River to head to Machha Khola. Passing Lapubesi and Nauli Khola, you head towards Machha Khola.

The next day takes you closer to the Himalayas as you tread along the forested trails to reach Jagat. The Tibetan culture and traditions begin to grow as you trek further north from Jagat. Passing Philim and Lokpa, the trek heads to Bihi and goes further towards Namrung Village. The Tibetan communities along the way offer warm hospitality and graceful reception. You head deeper into the settlements of the Tibetan descendants as you pass Lho and Sho villages.

Trekking along with the views of Pung Gyen Glacier, you arrive at Samagaon. From here, you take a day off from trekking and explore the Manaslu Base Camp vicinity on a short hike. From the base camp, the views of Mt. Manaslu (8163m) and numerous other peaks in the Manaslu massif are blissful. Naike Peak (6211m) and Larkya Peak (6249m) also make surreal appearances in the Himalayan panorama. After exploring the base camp, you retrace your steps all the way to Arughat Bazaar. Passing Sho, Namrung, Jagat, and Arkhet Bazar, you reach Arughat Bazaar.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival Kathmandu |1300m

The trip begins with your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). Our company representative will welcome you at the airport. Then, you will be transferred to the hotel where you can rest and refresh ump. You can explore the local areas for the remainder of the day. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Rest day in Kathmandu

We will arrange the permits and other necessary documents for the trek. Meanwhile, you can go sightseeing around Kathmandu with our tour guide. The UNESCO world heritage sites in the valley have attracted the attention of the travelers with their unique and diverse depiction of ancient Nepali art and architecture. Pashupatinath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath, and Swayambhunath are some of the major destinations in the city. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Soti Khola |730m by bus about 8-9 hrs

Today, you drive to Soti Khola which is the starting point of the trek. The scenic bus drive follows the Trishuli River on the initial stages whereas joins the company of the Budi Gandaki River towards its end. You pass the village of Morder and Simre to reach Arkhet River and then ascend to arrive at Soti Khola. Overnight in Soti Khola.

Day 04: Soti Khola to Machha Khola |930m | about 5-6 hrs trek

You leave Soti Khola and head towards Machha Khola. As you leave Soti Khola, the broad valley narrows and cuts into densely forested steeply valley. From Lapubesi, you descend into the wide, sandy riverbed as you make a climb to Khani Besi. Thereon, the trek follows a similar trend to arrive at Machha Khola. Overnight in Machha Khola.

Day 05: Machha Khola to Jagat |1300m | 4-5 hrs trek

After crossing Machha Khola and Khorlabesi, you pass through the hot springs of Tatopani. The trail then follows a forested area until Dovan. After leaving Dovan, the trail mostly ascends to Thulo Dhunga and continues to Yaphank. You cross a wooden bridge over Budi Gandaki River, enter the Manaslu Conservation Area and continue trekking till you reach Jagat. Overnight in Jagat.

Day 06: Jagat to Deng |1860m| 5-6 hrs trek

Leaving Jagat, you descend towards the river through the stone steps and ascend up the terraced fields to Salleri. From here, you can enjoy exotic views of Shringi Himal (7187m). Up ahead, you cross some streams and then make a climb to reach Philim. Trekking past numerous settlements, the Tibetan culture begin to flourish as we head Ekle Bhatti. From here, we trek west towards Deng. Overnight in Deng.

Day 07: Dang to Namrung |2660m |4-5 hrs trek

The trail goes down the Budi Gandaki River and climbs up to Rana village. You walk through the lovely pine forest and then cross the bridge to Bihi Phedi. You cross many streams and then follow the up and down trail to reach Ghap. En route, you can explore many monasteries and Chortens which have a significant history of their own. Then, you slowly climb ahead towards the village of Namrung. Overnight in Namrung.

Day 08: Namrung to Samagaon |3530m | 4-5 hrs trek

You pass the stone gate and a long Mani wall of the Lho village, with fabulous views of Peak 29 (7,871 m). If you are interested in an up-close view of Mt. Manaslu, you can take a side excursion to Pung Gyen Glacier. The trail follows the lateral moraine of Pung Gyen Glacier towards Samagaon. Overnight in Samagaon.

Day 09: Rest day and a visit to Manaslu Base Camp |4400m

In the morning, you follow a trail through the forest before making a steep ascent to a glacial moraine. Soon you arrive at Manaslu Base Camp from where you can enjoy the views of Himalayas in the Manaslu, Gorkha, and Cheo Himal ranges. The base camp is the perfect destination to put your photographic skills to a test. You can also explore the Birendra Lake on the hike to the Manaslu Base Camp. After exploring the base camp, you retrace your steps back to the village. Overnight in Manaslu Base Camp.

Day 10: Samagaon to Namrung |2660m |5-6 hrs trek

As the day begins with a glorious sunrise over the Himalayas, you prepare to leave for Namrung. Heading out of the village, you make a gradual descent to Shyala. Further ahead, you can also take a detour to the Ribung Gompa. With the views of Manaslu (8163m), Manaslu North (7157m), and Naike Peak (6211m), you head back to Namrung. Overnight in Namrung.

Day 11: Namrung to Deng |1860m |5-6 hrs trek

Following the Budhi Gandaki River, the trail to Deng leaves the Namrung Village. Passing small pasturelands, you arrive at a stone arch. From here, a short walk leads to Ghap. Continuing the trek past a few Tibetan settlements, you reach Bihi Phedi. Passing Rana, you retrace our steps to arrive at Deng. Overnight in Deng.

Day 12: Deng to Jagat |1300m |5-6 hrs trek

The trek on the day begins with a gradual ascent to Nyak. Passing Nyak Phedi, you can also enjoy the views of the mountains in the Shringi Himal ranges. Thereon, you arrive at Lokpa, which separates your trail from the one that leads into the Tsum Valley. As you begin the descent, you arrive at Philim and follow the river downstream to reach Jagat. Overnight in Jagat.

Day 13: Jagat to Machha Khola |930m |5-6 hrs trek

From Jagat, you have the option to take a different route from the one you took earlier on the trek. Both the routes are equally mesmerizing in nature and are decorated with the looming Himalayas throughout the journey. The trails rejoin at Tatopani, where you can choose to rest and relax at the natural hot springs. Resuming the trek, you walk along the Budhi Gandaki River to reach Machha Khola. Overnight in Machha Khola.

Day 14: Machha Khola to Arughat |608m |6-7 hrs trek

The trek on this day continues along the Budhi Gandaki River all the way to Arughat Bazaar. Leaving Machha Khola, the trek initially heads to Lapubesi passing Khani Besi on the way. Trekking in the company of lush forests and soothing sounds of the Budhi Gandaki, you arrive at Soti Khola. Continuing on the trek, you pass Kuerepani and reach Arkhet Bazaar. Arughat is the next and final stop on the trek. Overnight in Arughat.

Day 15: Arughat to Kathmandu |1300m | by bus

On the 15th day, you the bus back to Kathmandu. You spend most of the day on the road enjoying the views of the lush hills, mountains, and rural villages. Upon arrival, you check into your hotel. You can spend the rest of the day as you wish. Feel free to head to the local markets and shop souvenirs. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 16: Departure

The 16-day trip comes to an end today. As you leave Nepal, a company representative will accompany you to the airport and help you with the necessary formalities. Goodbye!
