Mount Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world with an elevation of 8,595 m. It is situated on the border of Nepal and Sikkim and is a few miles from Tibet. Before Mount Everest’s discovery, Mount Kanchenjunga was considered the world’s highest mountain. The name Kanchenjunga means five great Treasures of the snow and that are the Holy Scriptures, Grain, Stone, Gold, and Silver. The route for the summit and for the base camp started in 1988. Kanchenjunga Base Camp is more peaceful and unexplored than the trek route of Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp. This is the best trekking destination for trekkers because it offers the perfect views of the mountain range natural beauty and the culture and tradition of the people of the Himalayan region. On the other hand, the weather at Kanchenjunga Base Camp is a bit unpredictable. 

Best Time to Trekking Kanchenjunga

Kanchenjunga Base Camp goes through various climatic zones so it is quite difficult to predict weather conditions on the trail. The lower altitude of this trekking route is Taplejung which lies at 1820m whereas the highest altitude of this trek is at the altitude of 5140m which causes a varied change in the temperature. The weather up in the mountains region is unpredictable and a bit challenging, even though the weather is varied at the same altitude in the same season. However, you can predict the climate and weather from the pattern of the climatic conditions. 

Winter

In winter, trekking in KBC is more dangerous and difficult, due to extreme cold and snowfall. The months of November, December, January, and February are Winter in Nepal.  Trekking in Early Winter is the best time to trek in KBC other than Autumn. During this time, you will have a crystal clear sky for the observation of the spectacular mountains and the temperature is also not so cold. During Winter, lodges are closed in Pangpema and Ramche, so you need to stay in camp. The normal temperature during winter can reach up to minus 30 degrees. Morning and night time is very challenging in Winter. Therefore you need to be well trained and have good equipment, gear, and clothing. 

Summer

Summer in Nepal also means the Monsoon or rainy season. The months of June, July, and August are Summer in Nepal. The temperature is extremely hot at lower altitudes. The sky is usually covered with clouds which can be a problem to see majestic mountains and different landscapes. Trekking in KBC during monsoon is a unique adventure in itself. Before trekking in KBC in the Summer, you need to understand the possible challenges and take precautions and safety measures. 

Autumn

Autumn is the perfect season to trek in Kanchenjunga Base Camp or any other destination in Nepal. The temperature is neither too hot nor too cold. You will have the best views of spectacular mountains. During Autumn, Many festivals take place in Nepal which offers you to be close to the culture and lifestyle of Nepalese. 

Spring

The months from March to May are considered Spring in Nepal. There are many tea houses open during this season. So you don’t have to take the camping gear. During this month you can view the incredible snow-capped mountains and colourful flowers in the entire lush green forest. The clouds won’t be a problem in this season.
