Nepal Tibet Overland Tour with EBC Brief Insight

After the opening of the Rasuwa-Gyirong border, the Nepal Tibet Overland Tour with EBC a favorite destination among adventurers. Not only does this tour provides stunning views of the landscapes that engulf Tibet and Nepal, but it also provides a much-needed rest and an opportunity to dive into the unknown. This tour takes you to the base of Mount Everest and into the cultural melodrama that engulfs the quiet corners of Lhasa.  If you are in search of a roller coaster journey, then this tour is the one to take.

The tour takes 8 days to complete with you starting your journey at Kathmandu. From there, you head to Rasuwa at the Nepal-Tibet border and enter Tibet via Gyirong after showing all the necessary documents. You then head to Old Tingri, which is the nearest settlement area before the Everest Base Camp. Along the way, be sure to admire the Paiku Tsho Lake and go across the Lalung Pass. The road to Everest Base Camp goes along the Geu La pass and from the base camp, you get to see amazing views of the north face of Everest. En route, you also see panoramic views of the neighboring peaks like Makalu and Cho Oyu at the Geu La Pass. After completing the first leg of the tour, you head to Lhasa via Shigatse. At Shigatse, you visit famous monasteries like Tashilunpo Monastery, Sakya Monastery, and Palcho Monastery. To arrive at Lhasa, you must cross the Kamba La pass. The road provides amazing scenery of the Yamdrok Tsho Lake that stands out in the desolate terrain as a turquoise oasis of life. At Lhasa, you take 2 days to explore the cultural city. In the first day, you visit some of the famous tourist areas like the holy Potala Palace, Tibet Museum and Drepung Monastery. The second day you continue the tour and visit Sera Monastery, Norbulingka and end the last day at Tibet by visiting Tibet Tianhai Night Market. Throughout the trip, you are exposed to the unique Tibetan cultures and cuisines, so be mindful of the dos and don’ts. The best time to take this tour is spring (March-May) and autumn (September-December). In Tibet, the weather can sometimes get unpredictable so it is advised to carry jackets or warm clothes at all times.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Kathmandu (1,300m) –Gyirong (2,900m)/ 170km/ 8 hrs

The first day you drive to Rasuwa Gadhi at the border between Nepal and Tibet. En route, you can enjoy the scenic views of hills and mountain landscapes. Until you reach the border, your Nepali staffs will accompany you. At the border, after you pass the entire official checking, our Tibetan guide and driver will attend you throughout the trip. Then you drive to Gyirong. Gyirong is a Tibetan county and it borders Nepal.
Overnight in Gyirong.

Day 2: Gyirong-Old Tingri (4,350m)/ 210km/ 6-7 hrs

After breakfast, you drive through the dry plateau and see barren landscapes. En route, you see the magnificent Paiku Tso Lake (4,600m) and cross the Lalung Pass (5,050m). From this pass, you can see breathtaking views of Gaurishankar, Shishapangma, Annapurna, and Langtang. After crossing the pass, you come to Old Tingri. If the weather is clear, you can see Cho Oyu noticeably. Overnight in Old Tingri.

Day 3: Old Tingri-EBC (5,200m)/ 70km/ 2-3 hrs

Today you drive to Everest Base Camp after breakfast. En route, you pass by settlement areas, cultivation lands and come at Geu La Pass (5,250m), from where you can see amazing views of Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu and so on. You reach Everest Base Camp from where you can see spectacular views of the northern face of Everest. You explore the base camp and then head towards the Rongbuk monastery. Spend some time to learn about the culture and traditions here. Overnight in Rongbuk.

Day 4: EBC-Shigatse / 350km/ 6-7 hrs

After breakfast, you head to Shigatse, the second biggest city of Tibet. On the route, you enjoy the beautiful sceneries of the barren landscapes with the mountains in the background. Once you reach Shigatse, you transfer to the hotel and refresh. You go for sightseeing on some of the famous places of this city like the Tashilunpo Monastery, Palcho Monastery, and Sakya Monastery. Overnight in Shigatse.

Day 5: Shigatse-Gyantse-Lhasa (3,650m)/ 360km/ 6-7 hrs

After breakfast, you head to Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet. You come across Gyantse where you have your lunch and you’ll make a quick visit to Kumbum Stupa, the largest of its kind in Tibet. Then you continue to drive along the banks of Yamdrok Tso (Turquoise Lake) and cross 2 passes i.e. Karo La (5,010m) and Kamba La (4,794m). You cross Yarlung Tsangpo River to reach Lhasa. Overnight stay.

Day 6-7: Lhasa city tour

One day is not enough to explore the majestic Lhasa city so we shall take another day to explore Lhasa. In the first day, you visit the sacred Potala Palace, which was the home of Dalai Lama, Monument to the Peaceful Tibet, Tibet Museum, Drepung Monastery, and Kundeling Monastery. The second day you visit Norbulingka, which houses Tibet’s largest manmade garden, Sera monastery, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Square and end the tour by visiting the Tibet Tianhai Night Market. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 8: Departure

Today is the last day of the trip. Make sure that you have all your belongings with you. You hit the road after breakfast and enter Nepal via the route you came from Tibet.
