Everest Three Passes Trek Brief Insight
Everest Three Passes Trek is a challenging adventure designed especially for experienced trekkers in the Khumbu region. The trek takes you to remote and rugged areas culminating at the top of three of the most illustrious passes, namely, Renjo La (5360m), Cho La (5420m), and Kongma La (5535m). The trek covers most of the Everest region on its loop route accompanied by the Himalayas like Mt. Everest (8848m) and Ama Dablam (6856m). Along with the graceful companionship of the Sherpa inhabitants, the trip is a remarkable exploration of the entire Khumbu region.
Getting There
Beginning with your arrival in Kathmandu, you take the day to prepare for the trek and tour around the UNESCO world heritage sites in the valley. The trek begins slowly towards Namche Bazaar, where you can see beautiful waterfalls, plenty of stupas, and lush forests. Namche is the major trade hub of the Khumbu region and also offers plenty of modern luxuries to travelers. From Namche, you will head towards Tengboche and continue to Chhukung via Dingboche. You cross the first pass Kongma La Pass (5535m) en route to Lobuche.
You make your way to Everest Base Camp from Lobuche via Gorakshep. The base camp is the marquee destination in the Khumbu region which is also a viewpoint to relish the sights of the Khumbu Glacier and mountains like Nuptse (7861m) and Pumo Ri (7165m). The next stop on the trek is Kalapatthar which is famous for amazing views of Mt. Everest (8848m) and its ranges. You will come across the second pass Cho La (5420m) to reach Dzongla. Before crossing the final pass Renjo La, you explore the turquoise Gokyo lakes and hike to Gokyo Ri (5360m). Descending back to Lukla, a short flight to Kathmandu ends the journey. Everest Three Passes Trek is not like a walk in the park it requires serious physical fitness.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu Ӏ 1300m
The trip starts with your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). Our company representative will welcome you at the airport. Then you will be transferred to the hotel for your overnight stay.
Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing, and preparation for trek.
You meet our trek guide at the hotel premise and head out to explore the city. Our company van will take you around the valley for sightseeing and make brief stops for lunch and dinner. You will visit some of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites; Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Meanwhile, we will be preparing the necessary permits and documents required for the trek.
Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (40 minutes) (2840m) and trek to Phakding (2610m) 3:00 hrs
On the 3rd day, you fly to Lukla from Kathmandu. Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla serves as the entry point into the Khumbu region. You meet the rest of the crew including the trek guide at Lukla airstrip and start the trek to Phakding. You will walk alongside Dudh Koshi River enjoying the natural beauty of the Everest Region. You trek downhill through a rocky trail between pine trees and cross many suspension bridges before arriving at Phakding.
Day 04: Trek from Phakding to Namche (3450m) 6:00 hrs
From Phakding, the trail continues up the bank of Dudh Koshi River and crosses small suspension bridges to reach the village of Monjo. You enter the Sagarmatha National Park area which is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. The trail then descends to Jorsalle and ascends all the way to Namche. Namche is a major trading hub of the region and the trade hub of the Khumbu region.
Day 05: Rest in Namche (Hike to Khumjung village / Thame Monastery) 3:00 hrs
You will have to acclimatize well in order to avoid altitude sickness. For this purpose, we hike around the nearby places in Namche. Khumjung and Khunde villages are excellent options for the hike where you can witness authentic Sherpa culture and traditions. You can also hike to the Everest View Hotel famous for being a vantage point to witness mountains like the Mt. Everest (8848m) and Ama Dablam (6856m) among others.
Day 06: Trek from Namche to Tengboche (3865m) 5:00 hrs
After leaving Namche, the trek continues on a well-maintained path with views of the mighty Himalayas on all sides. After passing a few teahouses, you drop down to the river and walk towards Phunki Thanga. The trail then crosses a suspension bridge and climbs through small rhododendron forest to reach Tengboche. Upon arrival, you can visit Tengboche monastery, the biggest monastery in the Khumbu region.
Day 07: Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4410m) 6:00 hrs
In the morning, you can enjoy the view of Everest (8,848 m) and Ama Dablam (6,856 m) and get ready for the day’s trek. Dingboche is not that far so you can walk slow and take it easy today. The trail ascends to Pangboche and passes the small villages of Somare and Orsho before reaching Dingboche. You trek along the Imja River and pasturelands to head west towards Dingboche.
Day 08: Trek from Dingboche to Chhukung (4730m) 02:00 hrs.
Leaving Dingboche, you can enjoy the views of the Amphu Gyabjen (5630m) and reach the banks of the Imja River. Continuing with the views of Ama Dablam Glacier, you arrive at Syalko. Thereon, the trek leads along with the pasturelands with the company of the Himalayas. Trekking for a few hours, you arrive at Chhukung situated on the snout of the Lhotse Nup and Ama Dablam glaciers.
Day 09: Trek from Chhukung to Lobuche (4940m) via Kongma-la pass (5535), 8hrs
The goal today is to go over Kongma La and reach Lobuche. The day starts with a gradual descent and then a long steep trail takes you to the top of the pass. You stay at the top for a while and enjoy the spectacular landscapes surrounding you before dropping down steeply to Lobuche. Lobuche is a Sherpa village and is located at the foot of Lobuche Peak (6119m).
Day 10: Trek from Lobuche to Everest Base Camp (5364m) via Gorakshep (5170m) 8:00 hrs
You start today’s trek early walking along the rocky terrain to reach the Everest Base
Camp. The uphill hike to Gorakshep is easy and goes along the Khumbu Glacier. From Gorakshep, you continue to the base camp along the rocky paths and glacial routes. You pick your way through giant boulders and strong cold winds to reach the stunning Everest Base Camp. On the way, you will pass the Khumbu Icefall and relish the sights of a number of mountains in the vicinity of the Mt. Everest (8848m). From the camp, you get a close-up view of Nuptse (7,861m), Pumo Ri (7,165m), Changtse (7,543m), and Khumbutse (6,636m). Overnight in Gorakshep.
Day 11: Morning hike from Gorakshep to Kalapatthar (5545m) 3:00 hrs and trek to Dzongla (4860m) 5:30 hrs
You wake up early for the hike to Kalapatthar. The climb to the top is steep but upon arrival, you will be rewarded with magnificent views of the Mt. Everest (8848m) and other majestic Himalayas. The sights of the sunrise over the Himalayas in the Everest ranges is a marvel to relish. You return to Gorakshep for breakfast and descend to a small valley west of Gorakshep. The trek ends at Dzongla which is at the base of Cho La pass.
Day 12: Trek from Dzongla to Gokyo Lake (4790m) 8:00 hrs
This is going to be one of the hardest days of trekking. You make a steep climb to Cho La
Pass and awe at the panorama of the mountains in the Everest massif. After enjoying the views for a while, you begin descend. There is not much real trail on this route as most of the terrain is covered with snow with strong winds challenging you. The walk is long but will definitely be worth the effort after you arrive at a small village near the beautiful Gokyo Lake.
Day 13: Rest day in Gokyo and hike up to Gokyo-Ri (5360m)
This is another day for rest and acclimatization. On this day, you hike to Gokyo Ri another stunning view of the Everest region. From Gokyo Ri, you can witness the views of Cho Oyu (8,188 m). You can take your time to soak in the natural beauty this region beholds. The gleaming Gokyo Lakes with the backdrop of towering Himalayas decorate the views on the top of the pass. You can also explore the Gokyo lakes north of the peak if time permits. Descending back from the Gokyo Ri (5360m), you return to Gokyo Village.
Day 14: Trek from Gokyo to Thame (3820m) via Renjo-La Pass (5360m) 9:00hrs
Today, you cross the last pass in this exciting adventure. Leaving Gokyo behind, the walk follows the end of the Gokyo lakes providing mind-blowing views of the mighty Everest (8848m). Beginning the ascent to the Renjo La Pass (5360m), you trek on challenging and tiresome trail. On the top of the pass, the views of Mt. Cho Oyu (8188m), Kyajo Ri (6186m) and the Gokyo Lakes decorate the skyline and surrounding landscapes. After crossing the pass, you walk downhill to reach Thame.
Day 15: Trek from Thame to Monjo (2835m) 6:00 hrs
You walk out of Thame with a short uphill walk and pass through the pine and rhododendron forests. En route, you encounter many prayer wheels which symbolizes the religious and spiritual values of the locals. Trekking past Namche Bazaar, you bid farewell to the welcoming town in the Himalayas. The walk leads you downhill back to Dudh Koshi River and the trail passes through the village of Jorsalle to reach Monjo.
Day 16: Trek from Monjo to Lukla 5:00 hrs
The weather in Lukla can be unpredictable at times so you take the first flight in the morning and fly back to Kathmandu. In Kathmandu, you will have plenty of spare time so you can head out and explore the city or get some massages if your joints are still aching. Souvenir shopping and sightseeing are also other possible options.
Day 17: Fly back from Lukla to Kathmandu
The weather in Lukla can be unpredictable at times so you take the first flight in the morning and fly back to Kathmandu. In Kathmandu, you will have plenty of spare time so you can head out and explore the city or get some massages if your joints are still aching. Souvenir shopping and sightseeing are also other possible options.
Day 18: Reserve day OR free day in Kathmandu for shopping
If you cannot take the flight on the 17th day due to weather or any other difficulty then we have a reserve day for you. Else, you can utilize this reserve day with additional sightseeing of the Kathmandu valley. The UNESCO world heritage sites in the valley can be worthwhile the efforts.
Day 19: Final departure to your own destination.
The 19-day trip comes to an end today. As you prepare to bid farewell to Nepal, you can plan your future visits in the country with us. We hope that we have been a competent companion on your travel and hope to see you soon.
