Lhasa City Tour takes you on a magical journey through the desert of Tibetan Plateau into Lhasa, also known as the Forbidden Kingdom. You’ll fly over the Himalayas and traverse through miles of arid-landscape to reach Lhasa and explore the centuries-old historical monuments. The capital of Tibet Autonomous Region of China, Lhasa remains one of the highest settlements in the world. Today, Tibetan-Buddhism, the confluence of ancient Buddhism, Tantrism, and Bon-Po rites have become the predominant religion throughout Tibet. The Lhasa City Tour allows offers a mesmerizing opportunity to explore the cultural heritage in the capital of Tibet, Lhasa.
Lhasa City Tour begins with a scenic trans-Himalayan flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa. The distance of 604km will be completed in almost 1.5hr. You’ll reach the altitude of 3656m. Once at Lhasa, you’ll embark on a complete cultural and historical tour of the city. With an average altitude of 4000m, Tibet is called “the roof of the world,” and Lhasa remains the capital of the roof. You’ll begin the tour with a visit to historical Potala Palace. Also known as the winter palace, it was formerly inhabited by Dalai Lama and his royal office. Today, it serves as a frequently visited museum. A day won’t be enough to visit the entire complex, however, you’ll explore the major quarters and prayer halls of the palace before embarking on a tour to Sera Monastery. Sera Monastery is one of the three Yellow Sect monasteries inside Tibet. Afterward, you’ll visit Drepung monastery, the largest monastery in Tibet. It will be followed by a visit to the revered site of Jokhang Temple in Barkhor and shopping at Barkhor Market. If time permits, you can choose to visit Norbulingka Palace, also known as the summer palace. The Tibet Tour can be undertaken anytime between the months of March until November.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
Welcome to Kathmandu! Upon your visit, a company representative will warmly receive you at the Tribhuvan International Airport and escort you to your hotel. Once at the hotel, you will check-in and meet your tour guide to discuss the trip. Your guide will assess your documents to prepare VISA and permits.
Day 02: Visa Preparation and Kathmandu Sightseeing
Our representatives will prepare VISA and other documents on your behalf. In the meantime, you’ll embark on a cultural tour of the historical Kathmandu City. Kathmandu is home to numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites including the historical palaces, Buddhist stupas, Hindu temples, and monuments. Some of the wondrous sites you’ll get to visit during this tour are namely Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath, Swayambhunath, and Pashupatinath. Your tour guide will accompany you throughout the tour while offering information and insight about the sites.
Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa (3650m).
After early morning breakfast, you’ll drive to the airport and embark on a scenic trans-Himalayan flight to Lhasa. You’ll cover a distance of 604km until Lhasa in about 1.5hr. From the flight, you can enjoy the aerial view of the entire Himalayan range of Nepal and Tibet including the sight of desert-like Tibetan plateau. You can witness some of the highest mountains on Earth, namely: the Mt. Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8485m), and Kanchenjunga (8586m). Once at Lhasa, you’ll be transferred to your hotel located at the heart of the city.
Day 04: Full day sightseeing around Lhasa City. Visit the famous Potala Palace, Sera monastery. Overnight at the hotel.
The day begins with a hearty breakfast at the hotel. Afterward, you’ll embark on the full-day sightseeing tour around Lhasa. You’ll head towards the historic Potala Palace. Potala Palace, also known as the winter palace, was the former residence of Dalai Lama and his royal office. From here, you’ll make your way towards Sera Monastery, one of the Great Three Gelug university monasteries of Tibet, Sera Monastery lies almost 2km north from the center of the city. You’ll enter the premise before heading out to explore other parts of the city.
Day 05: Full day Sightseeing: Visit famous sites such as Drepung Monastery, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor market. Overnight at the hotel.
After early breakfast, you’ll embark on the second day of the city tour and visit Drepung Monastery. A Buddhist shrine which makes one of the three great monasteries in Tibet, Drepung is located at the foot of Mount Gephel. Drepung is also the largest among all the Tibetan monasteries. Afterward, you’ll head towards Jokhang Temple located at the center of Barkhor Street. After visiting the temple, you’ll explore the nearby Barkhor market and shop for authentic products, curio, and clothes. Barkhor market lies along the narrow streets surrounding Jokhang Temple. You may also witness pilgrims circumambulating around Jokhang Temple. If time permits, you can explore the only nunnery in Lhasa and Norbulingka Palace.
Day 06: Final Departure. Farewell!!
Bidding farewell to Lhasa, you’ll embark on a flight back to either Kathmandu. A scenic flight over the pristine Himalayas will bring you back to the historical Kathmandu city. You can catch the final sights of the Potala Palace, desert-like Tibetan plateau, and the Himalayas en route to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you’ll be escorted to your hotel.
