Pikey Peak Trek Brief Insight

Pikey Peak Trek, situated in the Everest region, is one of the most stunning off-beaten tracks which offers a breathtaking sunrise view of snow-capped mountains, including Mt. Everest (8848m), Rolwaling Himal Range, Thamserku (6623m), and many more. Mani walls carved with Buddhist chants fill the trail. You also experience the region’s endangered wildlife, lush vegetation, and natural flora and fauna. Walking past the pine and rhododendron green forest and getting familiar with the ancient culture and tradition of the Tamang and Sherpa people is another noticeable part of this trek.

Getting There

The trip to Pikey Peak starts with a sightseeing tour around the UNESCO World Heritage Sites Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square, after which you’ll drive to Shivalaya, the starting point of the trek. The drive from Kathmandu to Shivalaya is a long scenic drive of eight to nine hours alongside the Bhotekoshi River and Yelung Khola.

From Shivalaya, the trail passes through Bhandara via Deurali and proceeds to Goli. After a quick visit to Buddhist monasteries in Goli, you’ll ascend towards Nwaol crossing a thick forest of juniper and pine. Enjoying a glorious view of Annapurna Range, Langtang Range, and the Khumbu Himalayas, you’ll make a steep ascent to the top of the ridge until you reach Pikey Peak Base Camp, from where your climb to the summit starts.

Walking past the forested and rocky area, you’ll now climb straight upward to the snow-covered terraces and finally, reach the summit of Pikey Peak (4070m). From the top, you’ll get a mesmerizing view of the sunrise over various famous snow-capped mountains, including Mt. Everest (8848m).

As you descend slowly towards the Pattale via Jhapre, you might encounter some endangered wildlife like a red panda. Once in Pattale, you’ll drive back to Kathmandu enjoying an enchanting view of green hills, terraced farmlands, and plain valley. September to November and February to May is the best time to trek in this newly opened trail.
