Trip Overview
Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek is an alternative trekking route in the Everest region which is one of the most underrated trekking routes of Nepal. It is the best option for people who prefer to take a less crowded trail. This trail is filled with adventure, incredible views, challenging hikes, wonderful landscapes, and beautiful valleys. The trek goes from the beautiful forest and Sagarmatha National Park which offers the varieties of flora and fauna. The trek offers the ancient Tibetan Sherpa culture which is unique in itself.
With the beauty and challenges of the trek, this trek is becoming popular every year. The trekking route offers spectacular views of gigantic peaks like Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho-Oyu. Gokyo Ri offers the picturesque view of neighboring mountains.
The Gokyo Renjo La trek requires a minimum of two weeks to be completed so you need to have a sound Physical fitness to tackle the challenges. Similarly, mental stability and calmness are required so that you don’t get afraid of any unexpected events.
The trail takes you through a wonderful landscape, lush vegetation and the diverse and authentic Sherpa culture of the Khumbu Region. We will be trekking through the forests full of pine trees and rhododendron trees. If you are lucky enough you can also see the rare species like Musk deer, Snow Leopard, Wild goats and many more.
The region is famous for the hardworking and friendly Sherpa people who are known for their wonderful mountaineering skills and the adaptation to the extreme climate. On the way, you can see the numbers of mani stones, monasteries and colorful prayer flags.
Best time for Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek
Trekking in Gokyo Renjo Pass is possible throughout the year, however, Autumn and Spring have the best weather for the best experience in the Khumbu region. Though you can also trek in pre-winter, trekking in summer is more difficult.
Spring
The season is one of the best seasons for this trekking. In Nepal spring falls from the months of March to May. you will have a moderate climate with a mesmerizing view of mountains and the colorful blooming of Rhododendron.
Autumn
Autumn is the best season for trekking in the Khumbu region. In this season, you will have a clear blue sky with majestic views of the mountains. Similarly, you will have a mild temperature just right for trekking.
Summer
We don’t prefer trekking in Summer. Due to continuous rainfall and snowfall trekking can be very difficult. Similarly, due to fog, you won’t have a clear view of the mountains. But if you are trekking for some research on fauna and flora it is best for you.
Winter
Trekking in winter is a bit difficult due to extreme climate and heavy snowfall. Though you can trek in pre winter like December which is not too cold or not too hot.
Accommodation during Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek
Accommodation depends upon your choice. On the trek, you can choose the accommodation of Tea house and Camping.
Tea house trekking
Tea houses trekking are more comfortable and cheaper. You will have more facilities. The Sherpa people mostly run the tea houses en route. You can stay in the tea house which provides lodging and flooding with a hot shower, attached bathroom, WiFi, and mostly homeliness. In this type of trekking, you will have warm hospitality and friendliness. Dormitories are also available in this trek for the trekkers with a limited budget which is like 3 to 4 $ per night with common toilets and bathrooms. Talking about cleanliness, you will get a clean room and surroundings.
Camping Trek
Camping trekking is more difficult and expensive than tea house trek. But spending the nights in tented camps is worth those difficulties. This type of trek is mostly common in restricted areas. This region doesn’t have enough facilities to accommodate large people so you can also do this type of trekking.
Food During Gokyo Renjo La pass Trek Trek
Nepal is famous for its variety of cuisine and it is easy to cater to your needs. If you inform us earlier, you can get any food like vegetarian/vegan, gluten or lactose-free. In Kathmandu, the itinerary includes breakfast, but lunch and dinner must be covered on your own. On the trek, all the breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided. In the tea house trek, you can have any Nepali food, continental, Indian, Italian, or Tibetan food. In Camp trek, we will prepare every meal for you. On the pre-departure day, we will have a traditional Nepali dinner in Thamel for the celebration of your successful achievement of the trek.
Talking about the water, it is not a big problem here. On the way, you can fill the water in the tea houses or you can buy a bottle but a higher altitude results in a higher cost of the water bottle. Therefore, taking your own water bottle is the best way to minimize water costs.
Fitness and experience
Gokyo Renjo La passes trek leads us to the high Himalayas, so your body needs to be physically and mentally fit. The trek is about 2 weeks in the Himalayan region of Nepal. You can do preparation for fitness by exercising, walking, jogging, and gyming a month before doing this trek. Therefore enough food, water and rest is needed during the trek. On average, one has to walk for 5 to 6 hours a day. This trekking can be done with an average level of fitness. Experienced trekkers find this trip easier though newbies can also do this trek with personal determination and a positive attitude toward achieving success.
Acclimatization
Prepare acclimatization is required to avoid possible altitude sickness. Our trek has a prepared day for acclimatization. Similarly, walking slowly and taking proper rest help to overcome possible altitude sickness or acute mountain sickness.
